Distribution: | Indo-West Pacific: Tosa Bay, Japan to Celebes Sea. Also recorded from Indonesia and northwestern Australia (Ref. 5978). Also reported from New Caledonia, Philippines and Guam (Ref. 9771). | |||
Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-21; Anal soft rays: 20-20. Mostly brownish red with dark margin on dorsal fins and banded pectoral fin. | |||
Biology: | A deepwater species. Occurs on the continental shelf and slope (Ref. 9563). Bony scutes reduce commercial value (Ref. 9771). | |||
