Distribution: | Indo-West Pacific: Somalia (Ref. 30573), Mozambique (Ref. 5213) and Madagascar to Natal, South Africa; also from Gulf of Aden to Sri Lanka, including the Red Sea. Also recorded from Indonesia (Ref. 5978). | |||
Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7 | |||
Biology: | Inhabits coastal waters and frequents sandy areas near rocks. Flesh good but undergoes rapid softening (Ref. 2799). Marketed fresh (Ref. 3412). Depth range based on occurrence; to be replaced with a better reference. | |||
