Europe: several countries in central and eastern Europe. Northeast Atlantic: Ireland to Netherlands, Germany and the countries along the coast of the Baltic Sea. Maritime stocks may be extinct (Ref. 4537). Listed in Appendix III of the Bern Convention (protected fauna).
