Etymology: Krusensterniella: Named after the Russian navigator explorer, Admiral I.F. Krusenstern, who led the first Russian circumnavigation (1803– 1806) and visited that part of the Sea of Okhotsk where the type species was found. Of the two Russian-language names 'krusensterniella' (Taranets, 1937) and 'kruzenshternia' (Sheiko and Fedorov, 2000)—the first one has come into scientific use (Ref. 130195).

Vertebrae: 110 - 113. This species is distinguished by the following characters: pungent spines in D2 VII-VIII, found somewhat posterior the middle of the caudal part of the body, associated with the caudal vertebrae 37-46; all spiny rays (D1 + D2) 62-67; number of rays in D1 is greater than in D3, 54-60 and 44-46; vertebrae 110-113; D 108-111 (54-60 VII-VIII 44-46); A 93-94; scales are developed in a continuous cover not only on the caudal part of the body, but also in front of the beginning of A, reaching the base of the pectoral fin (Ref. 130195).
Cross section: compressed.
Collection area with bottom sediments, sand with gravel and pebbles, temperature (at 50 m) 0.95°С, salinity 33.87‰ (Ref. 130195).
