This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: body with depth at the dorsal fin origin 28.6- 29.9 % SL; snout covered with papillae; lips thin; lateral line scales 41; caudal peduncle long, its length 20.2- 21.1 % SL; the last undivided dorsal ray non - osseous, weak; Colouration: body and fins with a peculiar colour pattern where it is reddish brown along the back, silvery over the abdomen; a black band passes from the eye to the centre of the base of the caudal fin; fins whitish; anal fin with a dark band and a similar band along the middle of the third dorsal fin (Ref. 132417).
Cross section: oval.
