Caudal fin slightly emarginate in juveniles to extremely lunate with filamentous lobes in adult males; six longitudinal dark brown lines on body (purple in life), only the sixth extending beyond the anterior half of body (it extends faintly to caudal peduncle).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Found in the outer reef slope of barrier reefs.
