Etymology: Jupiaba: An indigenous word from Brazil, in the region where Angela (Ichthyologist) was born and discovered several new fishes. (Personal communication from Barry Chernoff, Curator Fishes/Museum of Chicago; meunieri: Named after J.F. Meunier (Ref. 27188).
Eponymy: Dr François Jean Meunier (d: 1942) is a French fish osteologist at MNHN, Paris. His doctorate was awarded in Paris (1982). He co-wrote: From natural history to earth sciences (2014). He helped collect the holotype. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
